Best Mathematics Books For JEE!!

Updated: Feb 19, 2019

The competition in JEE has reached an altogether new level with the coaching industry booming up and so, it becomes important to make a wise choice of books in order to utilize your time maximally.

I will write about the books I used. Note that I mostly relied on books and self study and so, I literally had a library of books with me. You are definitely not expected to purchase them all.

I have extensively searched the web for the latest and best editions of the books. To ease out things for you guys, I have included links to the books too, so that you can directly buy the books instead of wasting time searching for them(time is precious!). Just click on the link, and you will see the correct edition. MAKE SURE YOUR AD-BLOCKER IS OFF OTHERWISE YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE THE BOOKS.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MATHEMATICS:-

1. NCERT:- To be honest, NCERT isn't needed much in Mathematics, but you can read it for JEE(Main) specific topics or boards. For class 11th there is only 1 part and For class 12 there is part 1 and part 2.

2. Mathematics by RD Sharma:- People tend to underestimate the school level books. But these are the ones that will build your foundation. The Book comes for class 11th and class 12th.

3. Arihant Series:- The Best Book For Rankers. It has awesome theory with examples and was one of my favorite book. Even beginners can start directly through this book. The series have 7 books namely, Algebra, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Vectors and 3D Geometry and Play with Graphs.

4. Cengage Series By G. Tewani:- It is also for Rankers. I haven't used it personally, but I heard it is good. If your teachers use it then choose it. If you choosing Cengage Then purchase the complete series. Finally Its upto your wish. The Series have 6 books namely, Algebra, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, Vectors and 3D Geometry and Graphs.

6. Problems Plus in IIT Mathematics By A Das Gupta:- For Extra Practice and must solve if you are aiming high. And you can also solve his MCQ Book.

7. IIT Mathematics for JEE By ML Khanna:- A highly subjective book for JEE. This book might get you selected in JEE, but isn't sufficient for a good rank.

8. New Pattern JEE Problems Mathematics By SK Goyal:- A great book for problems!

9. Problems in Mathematics By SK Goyal:- Another Great Book for problems!

10. Arihant 40 years' Chapterwise Topicwise Solved Papers By Amit M Agarwal:- Must have book, it contains all the questions of IIT JEE and other examination. I Recommend this book only because It has Summary(same as Formula based handbook) and all the solutions are solved in detail. And Believe me many question and concepts are repeated.

After Purchasing the books, the students are not able to decide from where to start and waste lot of time thinking about it. So I will be telling you about the methods by which you can start solve this books.

1. TRADITIONAL METHOD:- This method is for students who are in lower classes(let it be 9th or 10th or below) and for fresh class 11th students who opted integrated classes same as Dummy School(So you can get time to read). Here your order of learning is 1 then 2 then anyone of 3 or 4 and then problem solving from 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10(Start with A Das Gupta as its a priority and then if you get more time then you can start other problem solving books too.) and do MCQ book only if you get more time because it is for increasing your interest in subject and clearing more fundamentals and concepts. You have to do your coaching module and past year books/questions simultaneously too. Many Top Rankers have followed this method, the only condition required is that you need time for it.

2. SMART METHOD:- This method is for students who are in class 11th and doing coaching with regular school and for those who start preparation from end of 11th or mid of 12th. Here you order of learning is starting directly from 3 or 4 because every good advance books start from basics and those who say NCERT is basics, do not listen to them. After 3 or 4 start problem solving books 5, 6 and 8(Start with A Das Gupta as you have less time to complete this book if you are able to complete this and you get more time then do other problem books.). I guess you won't get time for other books but in case you get then do it definitely and in the last month before boards when you prepare for boards then NCERT will be done and you can do questions of RD Sharma, theory is not much required. You have to do your coaching module and past year books/questions simultaneously too. Many Top Rankers have even came up by applying this method.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are countless books available out there. But not all books are good. I recommended only books I personally found good or heard from a credible person about their quality. It is easy to get confused. Too many books are bad too.
