Updated: Mar 29, 2019

The competition in JEE has reached an altogether new level with the coaching industry booming up and so, it becomes important to make a wise choice of books in order to utilize your time maximally.

I will write about the books I used. Note that I mostly relied on books and self study and so, I literally had a library of books with me. You are definitely not expected to purchase them all.

I have extensively searched the web for the latest and best editions of the books. To ease out things for you guys, I have included links to the books too, so that you can directly buy the books instead of wasting time searching for them(time is precious!). Just click on the link, and you will see the correct edition. MAKE SURE YOUR AD-BLOCKER IS OFF OTHERWISE YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE THE BOOKS.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chemistry:-

1. NCERT:- Reading NCERT will help you answer the theoretical problems asked in the paper, and will help you with JEE(Main). It will give you a heads up for boards too. Also, see the links below for all four books(read both class 11th part 1 and part 2 and class 12th part 1 and part 2). NCERT is best for inorganic.

2. Arihant Series:- A Good Book For Rankers. It has awesome theory with examples and was one of my favorite book. Even beginners can start directly through this book. The series have 3 books namely, Physical Chemistry, InOrganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.

3. Cengage Series:- It is also for Rankers. I haven't used it personally for theory, but I heard its theory is good. If your teachers use it then choose it. If you choosing Cengage Then purchase the complete series, you will get better discount on complete set. Finally Its upto your wish. The Series have 6 books namely, Physical Chemistry Part 1 and Part 2, Inorganic Chemistry Part 1 and Part 2, Organic Chemistry Part 1 and Part 2.

4. Wiley Series:- I have used them by myself and i have found that these books are really fundamental with awesome explanation. For questions you have to purchase something else but for theory it is the best. This Series consist of 3 books namely, Physical Chemistry, InOrganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.

5. GRB BOOKS Series:- A great series of books, all the books have awesome problems. They have good theory and the book is bounded to IIT-JEE syllabus which makes it more better. I have solved each and every question from these books. This Series consist of 3 books namely, Physical Chemistry, InOrganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.

6. Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations By R C Mukerjee:- the best book for physical chemistry for problems.

7. Numerical Chemistry By Dr. P. Bahadur:- recommended by many top rankers and this book have really good problems.

8. Organic Chemistry By Leroy G. Wade:- this is the BEST possible book for organic chemistry. It will surely make you fall in love with Organic Chemistry!!, buy this book and see the magic of organic chemistry.

9. Organic Chemistry By Morrison Boyd:- Another great book which will make you fall in love with Organic Chemistry.

10. GRB Advance Problems In Organic Chemistry By Himanshu Pandey:- The Best book for Practicing questions and most recommend by the top rankers. It does not have complete solution, it has answer key but you can get solution book.

11. Arihant 40 years' Chapterwise Topicwise Solved Papers By Ranjeet Shahi:- Must have book, it contains all the questions of IIT JEE and other examination. I Recommend this book only because It has Summary(same as Formula based handbook) and all the solutions are solved in detail. And Believe me many question and concepts are repeated.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Purchasing the books, the students are not able to decide from where to start and waste lot of time thinking about it. So I will be telling you about the method by which you can start solving these books.

NCERT is must because many questions and facts from NCERT comes directly. I find that Arihant Series is not that good it should be, But Wiley, Cengage and GRB is awesome. No other book can beat the theory of Wiley's Inorganic and Organic book. Cengage Series have Awesome theory and questions whereas in GRB books, the theory is just bounded to JEE and the questions are awesome. I have personally did all the questions from Cengage, GRB and Wiley Series. For More questions you can do books by R.C Mukerjee, P. Bahadur and Himanshu Pandey. You have to do your coaching module and past year books/questions simultaneously too. I have suggested Arihant 40 years book only because it has chapterwise and topicwise, so you can do it simultaneously.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are countless books available out there. But not all books are good. I recommended only books I personally found good or heard from a credible person about their quality. It is easy to get confused. Too many books are bad too.
